The Dream and The List

The ever morphing list of boat projects.

Chapter 2 of This Old Boat by Don Casey The Dream talks about defining why you have the boat. What's your dream day on the water like? Then it directs you to write down a list of everything needed to be done to the boat to achieve this dream.

The dream

A pretty boat, easy to sail, comfortable for day cruises and overnight getaways on the river, and capable of going for three or four nights as far as Rottnest (12 nm) or Busselton (120 nm).

The list of everything

Based on the method in the book but simplifying it (because I'm not good at detailed planning) break it into safety, structure, feature, and finish. Tasks should ideally be completed in that order - but sometimes you might need to do something out of order because it's more fun or you have all the bits or it fits into the time available.

This list will grow and change as i do and redo things.

Turning the list from the last post into a plan. First divide into the categories; structure (A), feature (B), finish (C). Divide those into categories of urgency; immediate (1), less urgent (2), someday (3). Out of these extract safety (S1).
